Winter Lipsticks

It's pretty fair to say that I'm not much of a lipstick person - having really pale skin and quite pink lips (with a very plump bottom lip that I'm not fond of!) makes it quite a challenge to find shades that suit me. However, getting fed up at my lack of a lippy collection, I took to Twitter to try and dig out some recommendations on the best colours for me to wear this winter!

Top - Rimmel 30
Middle - Rimmel 107
Bottom - Maybelline Keep it Classy

*excuse the Colour Drama being upside down!*

During my twitter-quest, I was recommended the lovely Rimmel Lasting Finish and the Matte version by Kate Moss in shades 107 and 30. As well as a Maybelline Color Drama, which I chose to get in shade 210 - Keep it Classy.

The Rimmel lipsticks were recommended to me because of the blue undertones within them; making them perfect for pale skin as it cools them down so they are not too harsh against the skin. However when using these, I found that the lips need to be well moisturised before applying as it is quite a dry formula - I thought so anyway, my lips are super dry! (That's my only problem with these; the rest is all thumbs up from here!

First up is shade 30. I found that there were hints of blue undertones but contained more traces a mauve/purple element adding elements coolness to the warm red tone. This was easier to apply than 107 (more on this issue soon) due to the creamy formula though I found it gathered frequently on my lower lip, so I had to keep pursing them though I didn't find this that much of a problem; I can live with that! The lipstick formula itself is infused with Black Diamond pigments, meaning it reflects light really well which creates some very gorgeous, shimmery tones!

I'll start with the one, teeny issue I found with 107. Because this shade is from the matte range of Lasting Finish lipsticks, I found that it was a lot harder to apply than the original range. This is because I thought it was quite dry which in turn made it harder to blend without a good moisturised base. The blue undertones of this shade are not as noticeable as it is a lot more red than shade 30; making it the perfect colour for when you are wanting a much bolder statement look.

Now, onto the Maybelline's Color Drama lipstick - which is probably my favourite out of these 3 beauties. When first looking at this product, I thought that it looked very dry and would be hard to apply; especially as it is a kohl lipstick pencil with what is meant to be a creamy texture - it looked like it would come off dry. How wrong was I?! This lipstick has probably the creamiest texture out of all mentioned in this post, it applies so well, I was so surprised. It was a tad dry but it's nothing that a good base wouldn't fix. This is such a great colour in itself; being a lovely deep red/plum - which is perfect for this time of year! I've also heard on my travels of the internet; that these are a great dupe for NARS Satin and Matte lip pencils - and at £4.99 a piece who can say no!

If you have any more recommendations of lipsticks for pale skin fire them this way, I'd love to find out more!

  4. I nearly bought 107 the other day, but the lighting in Walmart was terrible so I settled with 110. I haven't opened it yet. I had intended on wearing the lipstick to a christmas party, but didn't want to get it on my coat. I will wear it to another one, like you I have pale skin. I long to rock a red lip, but look like a clown when try to wear it.

    1. The lighting in stores really doesn't do 107 any favours, it's so much better in natural lighting. Trying to get a good red/dark lip is so hard with pale skin, I end up looking like I'm from the circus! Have fun at the Christmas party :) Xx
